Week 6: Monday November 16, 2012
Boot camp, and working out six times a week was officially not an option- making a baby is exhausting! My workouts at this point were primarily replaced with sleeping- in and daily naps.
My major cravings consisted of what I call my “Mexican lady cravings.” These included, but were not limited to: Mango, cucumber and/or jicama…mostly mangos though, with as much hot sauce or powdered chili and lime as possible, I also wanted a lot of grilled chicken with salsa, tacos were always good. Buffalo wings with extra wing sauce to dip the wings in, because they can never be hot enough! Also bagels from Noah’s, and pink lemonade, bread knots and chicken piadine’s from Tomatina- my favorite Italian place in Walnut Creek! I found it beyond weird that I had no cravings whatsoever for sweets, which as many of you know is borderline crazy for me.
Week 7, Thanksgiving: We wanted to tell as many people as possible in person, so Thanksgiving naturally seemed like a good time to share the news with more of our family and close friends. We were overwhelmed by everyone’s excitement and support! Sounds cliché, but words cannot describe just how much love we felt from everyone that night! We were expecting excitement, but wow…we feel so lucky to have so many people in our lives that care about us, and soon our little one too!
The next day I called my Grandparents (both live in Mexico) to let them know they were on their way to being great-grandparents. I apologized for not telling them sooner, but explained that in the U.S. it’s customary to wait to being as close to the end of the first trimester to share the news, becasue of the risk of miscarriages. My Grandmother, "Mama Rosita" quickly assured me that I don’t have to abide by that rule. She said something along the lines of “Honey, you’re not only Mexican, you're part of our family… so you’re fine. Share all you want.” Love her! :) PS- My Grandmother has 11 children.... which gives me some serious strength when it comes to thinking about getting through labor! :)
My Grandfather, "Abuelo" was also really excited! He wasn't shy about asking me or my mom about when his future great-grandchild would arrive. Seriously, this has been a question everytime I have seen him, or spoken with him on the phone. Ever since Garrett and I got married! So I was stoked to tell him the baby was finally on the way!
After that exciting and fun-filled weekend, I wanted to keep telling more family and firends but my energy was so low around this time, that I was nervous I wouldn’t sound excited enough when I called to spread the news. So when I felt my energy was up again, or ran into friends at gatherings, I would slyly let them know.
Below is a picture of me at 7 weeks. I think I had just woken up from napping and I still look seriously exhausted!
