Week 15 and 16:
Recent cravings:
Baskin Robbins pralines and cream-yum!
Sweet and sour chicken
Air popped popcorn with lots of lime and hot sauce -Garrett doesn’t join in on this one
Dolma’s, which I've had almost daily
The only baby drama that has happened around this time was dealing with having jury duty while pregnant. I’m still currently in the process of going to Jury Duty, but around this time was my first visit to the lovely Stockton courthouse. I had just had a conversation with one of my friends whose Dad is an O.B. and she was telling me that she never goes through the airport security x-ray machines, that her Dad advises all of his patients against it, especially the pregnant ones.
So I get to the courtroom and they have X-Ray machines. There is no way I’m going through it and exposing my baby to some unnecessary radiation (regardless how small of exposure) because of my friends recent advise. Paranoid pregnant lady much? Why yes.
So after standing in line, I get to the x-ray machine and there is a another employee who was in charge of looking at all the personal bags going through the x-ray, and another man to her left that lets the people that regularly work in the court go through on the “non x-ray” machine side. I nicely inform the man that I am pregnant and would prefer not to go through the big x-ray. He looks at me as if I’m speaking a foreign language and then looks at the not-so-amused lady working the personal belongings x-ray. He tells me I have to go through the machine. I patiently tell him, again, that I’m pregnant and will not be walking through it. The personal belongings lady is clearly annoyed with me, and screams twice that it’s safe for pregnant woman and motions me to walk through it. I tell her that I appreciate her opinion, but that it’s HER opinion and that I will not go through it. Then I look at the man and ask him if they can possibly pat me down, “you know, the way they pat people down at the airport if they opt-out of the x-ray?” He is officially looking at me like I’m a crazy person and says “Ma’am I’m not even trained on how I would go about doing that.” I didn’t know whether to laugh at him or take him seriously.
I kept my cool and told the personal bag x-ray lady that I would like to speak with her manager. She is now fully yelling at me and says the manager won’t be down until 10am- it’s currently 8:01am, and I was supposed to report to jury duty at 8am. So I tell her, “OK, well I’ll wait. I guess if I’m late for jury duty, it will be your fault.” I guess I finally got feisty.
So I just stood there…waiting. They finally gave in and let me through less than five minutes later. I have since been back for 3 additional days of jury duty and leave for lunch, so they now know me as the paranoid pregnant lady and I get to go in on the non x-ray side. I am greeted with the same lady who rolls her eyes at me every time. I still smile at her. My baby didn’t got through the x-ray machine once, and I felt a victorious :)
17 weeks and 4 days:
Recent cravings:
Chocolate pudding
Baked goods- trying to portion control them and stick to gluten-free
Greek food- Gyros, tzatziki sauce, pita bread, Greek salad- I wanted it all!
This week I started noticing that if I eat the “right” kind of foods, my taste buds go into extra happy mode…. But much more than usual. For example, I had greek food while at jury duty last week and it tasted like THE BEST greek food I had ever had…EVER! The same thing happened later that week with some tangerines. It’s controversial, but I really do think my taste buds are a bit more heightened.
We are scheduled to find out the sex of the baby on Valentine’s day! Hopefully he/she is in a “good” position where the doctor can see and isn’t feeling too modest! I’ll update the post when we find out.
