WEEK 29- WEEK 30: Nursery, Ultimate Baby Shower Event With Friends...

Week 29:

This weekend I got sick for the first time while being pregnant...not fun. I actually had to miss a family wedding in Arizona because it really knocked me down, and I had to take it really easy. Luckily, it went away in about a week. I basically overdosed on fresh oranges and healthy foods to try and get better. It definitely took me longer to recover than if I hadn't been pregnant, since I  don't really get sick very often in general.

Since I was under the weather and had to take it easy, Garrett decided he would paint the nursery. I was a bit conflicted about this, because we already have such a long list of things to-do before the baby gets here, and painting wasn't really a "must." But for some reason, Garrett was ad-emit about completing the look I was going for, and insisted he could paint it.

There are some pics below, and I have to say I'm glad he was so persistent. The color looks great, and really brings a nice and calm feeling to the room. It was also a "now of never" with painting, since all the books suggest airing out the nursery for a couple of weeks after painting or wall papering, so the baby doesn't get any of the fumes.

I'll make sure and put other nursery pictures up as the it gets closer to being completed.

Babies do weird things to us future parents. In Garrett's case, it's made him very excited to do things around the house. Thank you future baby! :)
Very into detail and I like it! :)

Thankfully the cough/cold didn't keep me down too long because I had tickets to "The ultimate baby shower event" in San Francisco, and attended with 3 other soon-to-be Mom's that I invited! One of them being Sarah, a good friend of mine from high school who is due with her second baby girl the 5th of May! I learned a lot from her vast knowledge on vendors and products. I swear Sarah knew more about some of the items like the city select stroller, then the actual rep did,I think she actually corrected him once or twice. To be fair to the rep, this stroller is not your average stroller. Makes me feel more normal to be around another Mom who likes to do some serious research! Sometimes,  I feel like I over do it, I think Garrett totally think's I over do it! Oh well.

It was really fun to further explore this weird world of babies on a closer level. There were lectures with different topics, a ton of booths with different companies and most reps were pretty knowledgeable about their products. There also were plenty of samples being handed out. It's crazy to see the biggest and greatest inventions. There was a stroller that folded itself, and had a screen that provided the current temperature, if the baby was sitting safely and other things that seem over the top. (And frankly unnecessary.)

They had food and non-alcoholic drinks (of course) that they were giving out. We tasted some delicious cupcakes, and I asked them to pretend they never saw us so we could come back and try the other flavors- they totally agreed to that! In my defense, they were mini cupcakes.

They also had other food. The mini sliders were my favorites and I even went and grabbed some for the other Mommas with me, because I  like sharing things that I enjoy, and also - I just feel better when I don't eat alone. We all "won" different things. Sarah won a breast pump and a boppy pillow, Natalie also got a very cool boppy pillow for her back and Kristen was robed of a full body pillow by an annoying husband whose clothes were too tight and was just going around grabbing things from different booths- ugh, but she did get some sippy cups and a baby magic bullet in her swag bag. Not so bad!

I won this fabulous stroller below! Some of our tickets were literally one number away from winning some other pretty big prizes which we were bummed about, but overall we all walked away with plenty of baby gear!

Such a fun event, that was made even more memorable by really great company! :)

It's an Uppa Baby G-luxe! Love the orange on the stroller!

Since it's an umbrella stroller,  I'll have to wait at least six months for  him to be able to use it.  I'm sure it will get plenty of use long term!

I also got to meet Baby MacKenzie this week! My good friend Kathy gave birth to her in January, but I don't get to see them super often because they currently live in New York. Kathy is another friend (I'm lucky to have a couple) that is really well read, and does lots of research and reading on babies! She has a plethora of wonderful info to share, and I love it!

When I first was introduced to Baby MacKenzie and held her, I got nervous because she started crying as soon as Kathy handed her over. It's normal to feel that way as a pregnant lady right? But after we got back from breakfast, I held her again, this time I had observed how Kathy held and bounced her around, and it was much better! She even feel asleep during the bouncing- victory! She is such a cute little baby, and it was hard to say good-bye to both of them. If I feel that way, I can't imagine how hard it is for the Grandparents and the rest of the fam to say good-bye :(

Baby MacKenzie loved looking at the shiny stainless steel ceiling fan above us :)

Week 30:  10 more weeks to go!

After chatting with a fellow pregnant sorority sister who is due a couple weeks ahead of me, we started chatting about sleep and how it's tough to truly rest. She recommended a pillow that she swears by, and told me I had to buy it. She promised it would change my sleep, and actually let me rest

When she showed me a picture of it on her phone, I didn't think I would actually get it because it's massive! But after a couple more nights of tossing and turning, I figured it was worth a shot. It finally arrived a couple of days ago, and it has changed my life! Not every night is great, but the fact that I can actually get comfortable, and not wake up in the morning with different back parts of my back being in pain, has been totally worth it!

Not sure how Garrett feels about it though. Especially when we go to my parent's place where we sleep on a full sized bed, as opposed to our king at home. He actually was asking if he should just pack a sleeping bag to sleep the next time we go over there. I don't know if he was kidding or not.

Didn't realize I got that nasty shadow in this pic, but you guys get the idea of how massive it is, right?

I now sleep just like this lady most nights...with a smile of my face:)  Except it seems to be one of the baby's favorite times to kick!

Baby boy definitely makes his presence known with his level of activity. Garrett and I own an L-shaped couch and I was lying on my side reading on the long side of it, while Garrett watched the game across from me. I mentioned how active the baby was being, and by the sight of Garrett's face it was apparent he could see it. Every time he moved, Garrett could see my stomach jump around and change shape. Sounds creepy, and it probably looked even worst, but I like when he moves around. I feel like it's his little way of saying, "Hello out there, all is well in here. See you soon." :)

30 weeks and 5 days

My Aunt Rosa Maria and Uncle Carlos just got back from a trip to England and France, and they were kind enough to bring me...I mean the baby... fresh parisian macaroons from my favorite patisserie ever...laduree! They met us for dinner on Sunday after getting in from their long flight to make sure we got them nice and fresh! Seriously the sweetest thing ever! (Literally) My plan was to share them with everyone, but they brought different boxes of macaroons back for all of us so everyone had more than enough. I quickly found myself checking out of the conversation and checking into a serious macaroon tasting! It's hard to stop with one, they are so light, petite and fluffy so before I knew it I had one, and then the next....and the next... and again, because I don't like to eat alone.... Susi and Garrett sacrificed themselves in splitting many of them with me (and baby). I was in heaven! Of course the baby started kicking a bit harder after macaroon number 7 ...or was it 8?

Before I knew it, over half way done "sampling." Not without the help of others... of course.

Looks like a french macaroon crime scene! There was a huge car accident that made our usual 45 minute car ride home, last 2 hours. By the time we got home, I wanted something just a "little sweet." As you can see, I was very indecisive.  They were all delish! Thanks Tia and Tio! :)
