Week 31, almost week 32: Baby weighs between 4-5 pounds!
| 31 weeks and 5 days. Taken on Saturday after the baby shower. |
It's official.... my swelling has begun. I am now officially wearing only my wedding band :( Garrett offered to buy me a band at sworoski that would fit my growing finger if necessary. Mostly, so I don't look scandalous walking around pregnant without a ring!
I also can't wear certain shoes to work anymore. No heels, because of my back issues, and they really just aren't recommended when pregnant in general. Other shoes are out because of swelling that is more heavy on some days more than others. Cute...I know. Thankfully I have some decent flats that still look professional with some of my pregnancy work clothes. Thank goodness!
My hormones have been raging (just a bit) lately, so when Garrett had to leave for a couple of days for a work trip I was actually happy for him. It was a "Go...save yourself!" kind of moment. I usually miss him while he's gone, but this time I was relieved he didn't have to put up with my crazy hormonal crap for a couple of days. Although I know he would never admit to it, (because he is a very smart husband) I know he needed "a break."
The only serious bummer about Garrett being out of town, was that that week our four-week series of child birth prep classes started. I decided to just go solo. Turns out, I was the only pregnant lady with no "support person" there, which made me kind of want to cry...damn hormones. Especially because the Dula (Child birth coach) teaching the class started off by saying, "So these classes are more for the support person than the expecting Mom, because Moms- once you go into labor you will more than likely forget everything." What a bitch! You'd think she would have checked and made sure everyone had a support person before getting on her little soap box. She then proceeded to say that we were going to go around the room and the support person was going to introduce themselves, along with the mom-to-be to the entire group. I was the second person to go. So I started by saying, "Well, since I'm the only person here without a support person, I'll just introduce myself. My husband is on a business trip." Bitter much? Slightly. A couple of other woman chimed in and said their husbands were out of town too, except they had a friend or family member with them. They were all being super nice though, which calmed me and more importantly my hormones down.
The class ended up being really interesting. The Dula was incredibly knowledgable, and I'm beyond glad I went. Garrett and I just had our second class this past Tuesday, and it was really nice having him there!
I also had quite the weekend. It was pretty jam packed, in a really fun way! My friend Kristin was nice enough to throw me a shower for all of my college friends and co-workers. She had so many cute details and little touches! I was so appreciative, and it's always fun when we all get together. We get our sorority girl fix for sure, and I feel incredibly lucky to have them all in my life:)
Below are some of the many cute details...
| On the door- so cute! |
| Party favors...M&M's! :) |
| Table being set-up: Adorable Diaper cake made by Alissa, that also had other little goodies attached. Appetizers being set out and some yummy cupcakes. |
| I gave Alison my Aunt Rosa Maria's "famous chocolate frosting" recipe a couple of years ago when I made them for Alissa's baby shower, and she surprised me with it on the mini chocolate cupcakes at the shower. It was my favorite frosting growing up, so I was in frosting heaven! Thanks Alison! Also a thanks to Natalie for the delicious larger cupcakes on the bottom. They were also dangerously good! |
| Kristin, the lovely hostess and I. |
| She also has a little "bun in the oven," but isn't showing at all yet. We're all excited for her and her hubby Sean! |
| Kristin's party planning helpers, and some of my favorite girls: Alissa and Alison :) |
| Kimmy with her awesome prize! She actually couldn't make it to my shower next month, so she went out of her way to come to this one. So nice :) |
| Sophia with her winning drawing of what she thinks baby Pounds will look like. She had to draw it while holding it above her head! It was really hard to choose just one. Especially because some of the girls accessorized the baby with hats, or drew it with a football. There were a lot of really good ones! |
| Alissa won some super cute Kate Spade earrings in the diaper raffle! Kristin had some really great prizes. |
| Tridelta Alumin's! :) |
| Even Loki matched the shower theme and colors, check out her ribbon. She is very photogenic! |
| The wonderful baby shower crew. PS- the "sorority girl squat" is not the most flattering when pregnant. ugh |
After the shower, we drove to San Francisco to go see Mary Poppins at the Orpheum. Garrett had bought me tickets back in December as part of my Christmas present. I don't think my ankles liked the fact that I couldn't extend my legs for long periods of time, because the next day they looked like they were sprained or even broken. They were huge! It was the very first time they swelled up, and that I had the lovely experience of having "cankles" (when you don't have any ankles, just looks like a continuation of the calf) for the first time- super cute.
Since the next day was not only Mother's day, but also a congrats BBQ for my "little" brother Omar who just got into Medical School (They grow up so fast..tear) many people got to see the lovely new additions on my feet.
They were swollen for two whole days, and one of the doctors I see at work recommended using compression hose so I wouldn't end up with vericous veins. Not only is he a doctor, but he has 5 children.... so I listened. I actually already owned a pair. I bought some for the almost 6 hour flight to Hawaii, since I heard that flying can make your ankles swell too. (I'm happy to report that my ankles looked great in Hawaii:) Thank goodness for compression hosiery! It's not sexy but it got the job done!

| Told you it wasn't pretty, but at least my ankles and feet still are! :) |
